Brazilian FinTech maximizes performance, productivity and customer satisfaction with MySQL HeatWave on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Introduction & Background
datasíntese, a leading Brazilian Fintech, provides a data enrichment service to debt recovery agencies. It updates and enhances debtor portfolios and returns them to customers via an Application Programming Interface (API). Equipped with enriched datasets, collection agencies are then able to recover unpaid balances more effectively.
The company also offers an anti-fraud service used for screening and identifying consumers before financial or business transactions are allowed to take place.
Business Challenges & Goals
datasíntese’s solutions require strong database performance to support the rigorous analysis, validation and updating of debtor lists cross-referenced by multiple data sources including the Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas (CPF) and the Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica (CNPJ), Brazil’s individual and business taxpayer identification.
Over time, as the workload expanded, frequent downtime forced datasíntese to look for an alternative to its underperforming on-premises infrastructure. The solution was to migrate on-premises databases and servers to MySQL HeatWave on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Business Results & Metrics
By reconfiguring its API to consume instances of MySQL HeatWave on OCI, datasíntese immediately began returning enriched data sets faster to customers in need of recovering delinquent and defaulted assets. The volume of debtor portfolio updates has increased 10X since deploying the solution.
Processing of the 250 million CPFs and CNPJs in the system rose by 50% with the blazingly fast in-memory query accelerator of MySQL HeatWave.
Turnaround time for enrichment of debtor databases plummeted from 4 days to 5 hours, an improvement of almost 90%, and help desk calls caused by stoppages and slow response times also fell by 90%.
The high performance of MySQL HeatWave led to a massive acceleration of user onboarding. Within 20 minutes, compared to days when on premises, datasíntese was able to add 1,000 users of a 5G implementation company to its anti-fraud service.
Eliminating the costly and time-consuming on-premises data center resulted in 50% cost savings. Also, the company no longer struggled with data center refresh expenses and human resource overhead.
Business efficiency rose as staff could concentrate on enhancing solutions rather than struggling to keep the system up and running. Having a test environment in OCI accelerated programming productivity by 30%, with programmers and DBAs enjoying elastic compute power.
MySQL performance tuning no longer requires time-consuming log analysis and reconfiguration efforts by providing auto-tuning features that adjust the parameters with no manual intervention.
Moreover, Oracle Cloud has simplified communications and sales through 24/7 availability across Brazil. Latency issues between the former on-premises data center and the company headquarters have been eliminated.
datasíntese’s sales executives, previously dependent on canned demos with bulky equipment for giving presentations, need only a laptop at the client site thanks to the virtual cloud network connectivity with the Oracle Cloud Region in São Paolo.
Why MySQL HeatWave?
datasíntese selected MySQL HeatWave based on prior usage of the MySQL Community Edition database. The decision followed the logic of going with the infrastructure of Oracle which develops the MySQL product and continuously innovates cloud and database technology.
Another factor was the deep business understanding and advice offered by MySQL teams during discussions, giving datasíntese the feeling of being in safe hands.
“The MySQL team lives and breathes their solutions, are passionate about what they do, and clearly communicate the MySQL HeatWave roadmap, meaning we have first-hand information that helps us plan for the future and stay ahead of the competition,” Jorge Teruya said.
Next Steps
datasíntese will be deploying two business-enhancing solutions provided by MySQL HeatWave and OCI. MySQL HeatWave Lakehouse will give it a massive boost in analytics thanks to the ability to query hundreds of terabytes of data from multiple data warehouses and data lakes, with the built-in HeatWave in-memory query accelerator.
The next project is to embrace OCI Artificial Intelligence Services for enhancing its anti-fraud solution, working with prebuilt machine learning models that make it easier for developers to apply AI to applications and business operations.
“MySQL HeatWave Lakehouse and Oracle Cloud AI are going to be a big turning point for us when we get to that stage,” said Jorge Teruya.
