Blue World Communications Integrates MySQL into High-Powered Web Development Engine

Blue World Communications, Inc., a company renowned for its easy-to-use and powerful software for building data-driven Web sites, has integrated the MySQL™ database server into its new Lasso Professional 5 product, a Web application server designed for high-end developers.

Lasso Professional 5 represents Blue World's next-generation engine for building and serving data-driven Web sites. It includes an advanced programming and administration environment along with Lasso's legendary ease-of-use. The MySQL database bundled with Lasso Professional 5 is called Lasso MySQL, and it will provide Lasso developers with a powerful SQL database server.

"Lasso customers have asked for tighter integration between Lasso and high-performance SQL databases," said Bill Doerrfeld, CEO of Blue World. "We chose the open source MySQL database primarily because of its great reputation, high-performance and ease-of-use - features that are hallmarks of the Lasso product line."

The Lasso Professional 5 administration Build section includes Lasso Database Builder for creating and editing the database schema of Lasso MySQL and MySQL data sources. LDML 5 also includes new [Database_...] tags providing custom creation and editing of SQL database schema. Beyond the embedded Lasso MySQL database, Lasso Professional 5 introduces direct support for external MySQL databases via Lasso Connector for MySQL.

Blue World has embraced the open source movement in Lasso Professional 5, providing the source code of numerous components for customization and extensibility by developers. These components include: Lasso Connector for MySQL, Lasso Connector for Apache, Lasso Connector for IIS, all Blue World provided LassoApps, and many of the new tags provided in LDML 5.

Lasso Professional 5 will offer support for the Red Hat Linux, Mac OS X and Windows 2000 operating systems. It is available in Beta version currently, and the production version will be available in March 2002.
