DRBD for MySQL is a high availability solution that combines MySQL, Linux Heartbeat, and Distributed Replicated Block Device (DRBD) so organizations can cost-effectively deliver High Availability (HA) database solutions. Implementing MySQL with these open source, high availability packages enables customers to:
DRBD for MySQL enables organizations to add high availability to new and existing business-critical MySQL systems including e-commerce, social networking, dynamic content management, online gaming and other online database applications. DRBD for MySQL, together with MySQL Replication is also an excellent solution for adding high availability to scale-out applications.
Leveraging the cluster management capabilities of Linux Heartbeat, DRBD for MySQL provides many high availability requirements such as fail-over, node recovery, and data synchronization so that developers can focus on the core logic of their application. DRBD synchronously replicates data to another node in an Active/Passive configuration. In the event of a failure, Linux Heartbeat will promote the Passive node to an Active state. Since DRBD replicates data synchronously to the Passive node at all times, after promotion that data is immediately available on the other node. DRBD also manages efficient data re-synchronization on node recovery, and allows for quick failback if required. Therefore, developers don’t need to concern themselves with writing High Availability functionality into the application code.
Delivering a High Availability solution based on open source components protects you from proprietary vendor lock, which can result in unpredictable costs as the size of your application grows and the number of users increases exponentially. MySQL, Linux Heartbeat and DRBD all benefit from a community of millions of developers using these products everyday to build database and high availability applications. In addition, DRBD for MySQL gives you the benefit of leveraging your existing skills by developing applications in your language of choice including C, C++, Perl/PHP/Python, Java, Ruby and more.
Customers who want to implement DRBD for MySQL get the professional help they need from MySQL. MySQL provides:
